Happy Halloween

The kids picked their Halloween costumes with care - he is a knight and she is purple.

We buy costumes on November 1st so we have to try them on to see if they fit before we get too far.

Ready to trick or treat!

Halloween Events

There are many events the kids get to wear their costumes for throughout our area. I don't have pictures of them wearing them to school.

Here they are at his piano lesson - it was bring a friend and wear a costume.
I do not have a photo of where she took him to her voice class.

A fire station has an event where the kids can explore and go trick or treating. We were studying the local government and that day the kids had to research the fire chief. They were so excited to get to meet him in person that evening.

Read to Rover

This has quickly become another favorite activity at our local library. They bring in therapy dogs and let the kids read books to them.

Sweet Daughter is reading to a dog stretched out on his back. She was proud she got to pet the dog's tummy while reading. I'm sure the dog was proud of that as well. ;)

I'm not sure Sweet Son's dog liked his choice of book based on the look on his face, haha.

Basketball

Sweet Daughter is still loving playing basketball. She is actually a good defensive player since she isn't intimidated by the size of others.

She's the tiny one behind her defender.

Different game - they have the shortest girls waiting for someone to take a free throw - she's the tiny one

Cooking

Sweet Daughter wanted to help cook. These are also the best photos showing her hair cut I posted about yesterday.

Shredding Cheese

I love having her help!

Hair Cut

Sweet Daughter wanted a hair cut. She asked to have it all cut off and have a buzz cut. We suggested starting with just a few inches at a time.

Tomorrow I will post after photos.

Giant Suckers

The tradition is to give goody bags at the end of a birthday party. We bought a selection of board games and giant suckers and let each kid pick a game and a sucker. Almost a month later and our kids decided they should taste the suckers they gave out to their friends.

It's as big as her face.

He likes the color pattern.

The verdict? They taste sugary. He tried a few licks and then threw it away. She sucked on it for about 5 minutes then threw it away. They just don't like sweets.

Pumpkin Carving

This is the second year the kids did the carving by themselves. I love this stage of independence!

Cleaning out the pumpkin

She went with an apron and a head band before diving her entire arm in

It's always more difficult than they remember

You can almost hear the grunts in the photo

Showdown 5K Results

Some people take great race photos every single time. I am not one of those people. However, Sweet Daughter always gets the magical floating in air pictures.

(Did I mention it was cold?)

Showdown 5K

Sweet Daughter was working toward her first spinner medal for running. She had to complete 3 races in a race series that included up to 4 runs. Showdown was her 3rd run!

Before the race, excited to get started (and cold)

Yes she seriously looks like she just skips through the course

So, how did she do? Come back tomorrow!

Autumn Photos

Our kids are rarely cooperative with the wooden signs you are supposed to stick your face through for pictures. However these they agreed to do without any argument!

Family at the Pumpkin Patch

The pumpkin patch had some cute photo areas set up. Here are some of my favorites. (Clearly we weren't dressed for Fall or cute photos, but we were all clean and covered so I count it as a win.)

These pumpkins were big

Old Truck

Every kid loves cars they can climb all over so this old truck was a great place for photos.

"Driving"

Hold pumpkins so we can tell what season it is, haha!

Corn maze and pumpkin patch

The kids wanted to do a giant corn maze so this year we went to a different pumpkin patch than we normally do.

Inside the maze
We let the kids lead us - each got to lead for 3 turns then they switched. We still made it out faster than the average time. I wish it had lasted longer!

Pumpkins!
They had a pumpkin patch, but they were extremely expensive and after spending money to get there and for the maze we left without buying one.

Lego line

The kids worked together to create a security line for their Lego people. (Is it bad to admit this isn't even all of their minifigs?)

Finished Pumpkins

We love Halloween, in case you didn't realize it. Here are the finished pumpkins all done by the kids.

Melted crayons, painted "doughnut"

Olaf! Get your head back on

That's better.

Painting Pumpkins

He knew exactly what he wanted to do and it required buying 3 pumpkins and multiple cans of spray paint. Yes, I'm the crazy mom who trusted my 7 year old with spray paint - he was closely supervised and outside in a well ventilated area.

First experience spray painting

This is going to take awhile.

Days later, still painting

Come back on Wednesday to see the finished result which is really cute.

Painting a pumpkin

Carved pumpkins don't last very long before rotting. However, whole painted pumpkins allow for creativity and a much longer display time. She picked a white pumpkin and got to work.
