Sleeping with a bear

The giant bears we got on Thanksgiving are loved and cuddled with nightly. These are just some examples.

Kid still refuses to sleep on his bed, but this does look warm and cozy.

I always worry they can't breathe, but when I get close their faces aren't covered.

He has his own room, his own bed, and his own bear and still sleeps on her bear on her bed.

Sleeping

We provide nice comfortable beds for everyone in the family, I promise!

Of course you should use the couch cushions to make a sleeping mat... right next to your BED!

I love how the giant bear has an arm around her

He's sleeping in the bear's armpit, but he's on the bed!

Sleep

Don't you just love it when kids sleep?

It's important to cuddle up to a good book... or books as the case may be. Most people put them down before falling asleep, but what fun would that be?

Remember they do have their own rooms. They have their own space. They fight all day long that they want alone time. Then at night they get lonely. awww

A Tale of Two Beds, part 42

The title is slightly a lie here, it's more the tale of one bed. Sweet Daughter has finally started sleeping in a bed in the traditional manner. It only took 6 years. However, Sweet Son...

He has a bed. He has a soft comfortable big bed. So of course here he is sleeping on the floor with his bum on top of a pillow.

Half credit? At least most of him is on the bed?

Once again, here are the links to the previous tales. Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Frustration, Part 6, Part 7, Part 8, Part 9, Part 10, Part 11, Part 12, Part 13, Part 14, Part 15, Part 16, Part 17, Part 18, Part 19, Part 20, Part 21, Part22, Part 23, Part 24, Part 25, Part 26, Part 27, Part 28, Part 29, Part 30, Part 31, Part 32, Part 33, Part 34, Part 35, Part 36, Part 37, Part 38, Part 39, Part 40,

A Tale of Two Beds, part 41

This one is all about Sweet Son. He has gotten into the habit of reading himself to sleep. I LOVE it! Here are some photos of him asleep with books (bonus, he is in bed).

The Smash! Smash! Truck - A British book about a recycling truck

A Tale of Two Beds, Part 40

I haven't written any of this series since September! They are getting better about sleeping in beds.

See, she is in bed.
He is in her room on the floor with her tiger on top of him, but hey 1 of 2 counts!

She tucked all of her animals in with her and made the bed still look neat before falling asleep. This is a level of organization even I don't have when sleeping.

He started by kicking off his top sheet and blanket, but hey, he is sleeping in a bed.

It only took 6 years for them to finally understand the concept!

A Tale of Two Beds - part 39

This post is all about Sweet Daughter and her tiger. This tiger has scared me so many times in the middle of the night. The light reflects off its eyes and she will sometimes have it laying down, standing up, etc. There are times there are eyes shining at my height in her bedroom and that freaks me out.

Here the tiger is slouching against the wall while she holds onto one ear.

Sweet Daughter is in this picture. Her face was not covered believe it or not - I did check.

Different night (same pajamas) and this time the tiger's paw is covering only her mouth and nose. I moved it off, but I can't imagine sleeping like that!

Birthday Balloons

Our tradition is for the kids to find many balloons to play with on their birthday. One year we filled the playroom. One year we filled the hallway. (Each year we seem to pick smaller and smaller rooms...) This year we did some in the hallway and some in each of their bedrooms.

Notice how they are both sleeping on their beds correctly? It's awesome!!! Happy 6th Birthday

A Tale of Two Beds - part 38

I would like to note for the first time EVER in this series. Both kids are in bed in every single picture. Progress!!

That's not how I tucked him in with the blanket, but whatever.

We got to dog sit for our neighbors and I promised both kids the dogs would tell them goodnight before the dogs went to sleep in their kennels. She slept through it.

He was still awake and thought this was hilarious.

He went to bed with a shirt on... I think... maybe... oh, who cares? He's sleeping!

A Tale of Two Beds, part 37

Ok, so we have tried everything to get these kids to sleep on a bed. They have done everything to avoid that. Here is part 37 in A Tale of Two Beds. I always debate what to tag these posts with - beds and sleep seem obvious, but gross motor and self-help skills? Only my kids would have a post about sleeping include those.

Poor boy has to sleep on the floor. If only he had a bed.

Seriously? That's not how you are supposed to use a bed!

Ok, now they are clearly messing with us. They moved her twin mattress into his room, remade the bed with sheets and blankets, and then he crawled under his bed and they both fell asleep.

Why sleep in a dark room on a soft bed when you could sleep in a doorway with a bright light shining in your face?

Hah! He's not even asleep this time.

(Almost) Wordless Wednesday

Sharing a bed means keeping them apart!
*Note instead of sleeping with the animals they brought they are sleeping with their cousin's animals

A Tale of Two Beds - Part 33

Once again, here are the links to the previous tales. Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Frustration, Part 6, Part 7, Part 8, Part 9, Part 10, Part 11, Part 12, Part 13, Part 14, Part 15, Part 16, Part 17, Part 18, Part 19, Part 20, Part 21, Part22, Part 23, Part 24, Part 25, Part 26, Part 27, Part 28, Part 29, Part 30, Part 31, Part 32.

I hear stories that everyone takes photos of their children sleeping. It's such a sweet time. They are so quiet and peaceful... and then there are my kids.

Um... Where is Sweet Daughter? That's not where her bed is supposed to be. Her favorite blanket is missing.

Oh, of course. She is crammed in a corner between the dresser and wall. Too bad she doesn't have a bed and a room to spread out in.

Am I the only one who thinks they should sleep in their beds instead of on the floor?

Awww, they fell asleep together - still on the floor though.

Ok, well one of them is on a bed. And look how nicely Snoopy is tucked in on the floor.

She said she sleeps better if someone is watching her. I'm trying not to over analyze that. She is asleep and on her bed, that's a win in my book.

A Tale of Two Beds - Part 32

Once again, here are the links to the previous tales. Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Frustration, Part 6, Part 7, Part 8, Part 9, Part 10, Part 11, Part 12, Part 13, Part 14, Part 15, Part 16, Part 17, Part 18, Part 19, Part 20, Part 21, Part22, Part 23, Part 24, Part 25, Part 26, Part 27, Part 28, Part 29, Part 30, Part 31.

They are both laying in their doorways so they could sleep closer together. Awww

3 blankets and 2 pillows on top of her head and her legs were shivering.
(Her face was not covered.)

That's exactly how you are supposed to use a bed!
It only took 5 years to figure it out.

A Tale of Two Beds - part 31

Once again, here are the links to the previous tales. Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Frustration, Part 6, Part 7, Part 8, Part 9, Part 10, Part 11, Part 12, Part 13, Part 14, Part 15, Part 16, Part 17, Part 18, Part 19, Part 20, Part 21, Part22, Part 23, Part 24, Part 25, Part 26, Part 27, Part 28, Part 29, Part 30.

When he went to bed the bed itself was on the other side of the room. He also had his pillow and blanket on the bed. I thought it was more convenient that way.

Well half of her is on the bed... I would be hurting for days if I slept like this.

They did everything possible to sleep together while staying in their own rooms. His bed isn't supposed to block the doorway and she's not really supposed to sleep in the doorway, but this was really cute.

This photo was taken shortly after she very angrily announced, "I'm not tired!" Of course you aren't. That's why you fell asleep on the couch in the middle of playing.

If you can't beat them, join them. :)
