Marbled Eggs with Shaving Cream

We decided to find new ways to decorate our Easter eggs this year. I saw a great idea online and wanted to try marbled eggs. I told the kids it would make a big mess and they were immediately on board.

First you spray shaving cream in a thick layer on a pan. We used foil to make clean up a bit easier. Then you drip a couple of different colors of food coloring in many places on top. The kids used a straw to mix the colors around. Don't mix too much because it dulls the colors. When in doubt, add more color.

Ideally, you want to get to where the top is all bright colors and you the white is only on the bottom. We didn't use enough color, but once again it was still messy and fun.

The next step is to roll the eggs gently on top. Other sites suggest using tongs or a spoon. I suggest rolling up their sleeves and using fingers. They are going to stick their fingers in it anyway, so just go with it. You let the eggs sit overnight before wiping off the extra shaving cream and you end up with a marbled look on your eggs. Since doing this I have learned if you dip the eggs in vinegar before this, the color holds better.

Of course after doing the eggs, you still have a pan full of shaving cream. Surely this could be used for something else. We took a piece of paper and gently pressed it into the top and then let those dry overnight as well. They turned out even better than the eggs!

****Do not eat eggs that have been in shaving cream****
