Kitchen Tower

You may have noticed that in all of my photos of me cooking with the kids, we are sitting on the floor. This isn't ideal, but they couldn't reach the counter. I found many different kitchen towers online, but all were expensive and many wouldn't quite fit our needs (i.e. two kids at the same time). Luckily, I married the type of guy who can look at a photo and create something better. He started building this in July whenever he had spare time. He hoped to have it done by the kids birthday in September. Instead, the kids got it for Christmas. Here is the process of making a kitchen tower:

It started as one large board and two dowels. We had them cut the board in half to get in home in the car. Everything else was done by wonderful husband.

Using the kitchen counter height to make all of the measurements. Measure twice, cut once :)

One side with all cut outs - There are two steps on each side for the kids to climb up. The circles are for the dowels. This way it can be two different heights and we can continue to use it as the kids grow. It also has a board across the bottom and another across the top. This way they can't easily fall off.

Two sides cut - Most of the work was done at night in the dark.

Here it is assembled to make sure everything fits before staining.

Halfway through staining the pieces (they aren't all pictured)

The kids wanted to help. While husband is drilling holes and screwing all of the pieces together, sweet daughter is using her toy wrench and sweet son is using his toy drill.

It's done! It can easily hold both kids and raises them up to a perfect height for helping in the kitchen. I love it and the kids love it even more. It's great to have such a handy husband.
