Blog Party!

Ultimate Blog Party 2012

This is my first time joining the Ultimate Blog Party, but what's not to love, right?

My family in a field of bluebonnets

I'm Jessica and I started this blog because I parent differently than many of my family and friends. This is a way to explain what we are doing and why. I'm a nerd who researches everything and this is the place where I share what I have learned. I have boy/girl twins and life keeps me amazingly busy.

My kids at the zoo.

Here are some of my most popular posts:
Car Seats, Baby Carriers
TV and Computer Time for Babies
Teething Necklaces
Cloth Diapers

Told you we do things differently! I hope to see you back here again. Leave a comment and I will follow your blog as well.

  1. I just wrote a post (not published yet) about not letting your baby watch TV! Screen Free Week is April 30-May 6 this year, and I think we're going to try it!

Thanks for stopping by Lemon Drop Pie!

    1. It's great that more people are getting the word out. You will have to let me know when you publish that post. :)

  2. Your kids are adorable!! I'm an over analytical geek, too. And what better place to share geekiness than through blogging? I'm glad I'm not the only one out there. :)

  3. The amber necklaces are a great idea! Will keep on hand for the next baby. Thank you for sharing. I remember when my youngest was a baby an older lady saw us at the store and saw her drooling and gnawing on her fist and she told me a little whisky rubbed on the gums would do wonders. Maybe that's true, but that was one bit of advice I did not try out on my children. Thanks for stopping by my blog.

    1. I ignored most of the advice I was given when my kids were babies. Like if you give your infants (they were 3 months old when I was told this) an adult amount of cough syrup they would sleep through the night.

  4. Your bio amused me because I have said the same about myself before - I'm an obsessive researcher and a geek and I research everything! Toddler car seats? Researched for MONTHS?! New cell phone? Started looking 4 months before my contract was up. Everything from which baby bathtub to what type of shoes I've spent time researching, questioning, and figuring out the pros and cons. My son is 25 months and we don't allow him to have any candy (including suckers, chocolate, etc), even for holidays, which drives everyone else NUTS even though they can't pinpoint WHY it bothers them and when I give my reasons, they start to see my point of view. Or they just nod and smile and write me off as nuts, either way.... LOL

Consider me a new blog follower :o)

    1. Most of my family thinks I'm nuts. This way they can read what I'm doing and keep their comments to themselves. :) It works so far.

  6. I know about amber-necklaces. In the country I grew up, in Switzerland, almost all babies are wearing one, you actually get one from your family/friends when you're still in the hospital. Of course I had one for my son too. But I couldn't really tell the difference or how good it worked for him. Maybe the teething pain didn't bother him too much to start with. It looked cute on him though. ;-)

    1. We couldn't really tell a difference because they always wore them. Then someone decided to test it by taking them off. Seriously? They have not been off since. I know they are working for my kids!

    1. Twins are an entirely different world, aren't they? I love having twin moms to get advice from and just have someone who "gets" it.

    1. Honestly I have no clue. I really don't know what I'm doing with this blog. This was just the format that seemed easiest. I'll ask my husband if there is another option...

    1. When I tell my friends I'm trying something new they say, "But was the method peer reviewed?" I know they are teasing, but the answer is always "YES! It actually was."

    1. I love learning from other moms. Even things that I know wouldn't work for our family can work beautifully for someone else. Every child/family/situation is different and I'm learning not to judge the differences.

  20. Nice to meet you and thanks for stopping by my party post. I read the posts you linked and we definitely parent differently. However I am a firm believer that there is not a right way to parent. It is what is best for your family. Those who judge never had their own kids. Once you have your own you realize no book or site or 1 person can tell you what is right.
