Science giveaway!

Today I'm hosting the first of 3 giveaways this month! One Minute Mysteries series has published a book called 65 Short Mysteries You Can Solve with Science! It is recommended by the National Science Teachers Association for ages 8-12.


 

The book includes mysteries from Life Science, Earth and Space Science, Physical and Chemical Science, General Science, and two bonus sections with 5 more mysteries from the other two books in the series.

  1. My favorite science class was definitely Physics! Such a hard, but fun, class. This book would be awesome for my 10 year old non-fiction fan and science geek. :)

  3. My favorite science class was Zoology. All the experiments with slicing and renerating flatworms, milking Sea Urchins, etc were fascinating to me.

    1. I hated anything that involved dissecting. That's how I chose my lab partner - she loved it so I took notes!

  4. I always loved making Borax crystals on pipe cleaners! I also loved the volcanoes with baking soda and vinegar.

  9. My favorite science experiment in school was with kites. We created all sorts of different size, shape, weight kites and had a contest to see which one flew the best, highest, longest, shortest, etc........

  10. My teacher once soaked a $100 bill in alcohol and set it on fire, but to our surprise it didn't burn! Only the alcohol burnt off!

    1. My first thought was what a great way to help kids remember the experiment. My second thought was how did a teacher have a spare $100 bill? I think I would have demonstrated it with a $5... haha :)

  11. My chemistry teacher stuck a helium hose into bubble solution and blew a tower of floating bubbles, then turned off the helium and lit it on fire. Everybody loved that.

  12. I really liked the honors class I was in in 8th grade. I remember writing (and then performing) a song about the rainforest with some friends haha

  18. Almost all science! I love, love, love science and teaching it to little ones. I think my favorite subjects to teach are about the brain and our bodies or really, whatever the kid is most interested in!

    1. Hah, I used to say I couldn't remember something because "I've slept since then." Now that I have kids it's more like I can't remember things because I haven't slept since then. :)

  26. I liked Health Science when in nursing school and learning how our organs work and what can go wrong with them and how to treat problems was fun, and interesting

  37. Favorite experiment was the day before Christmas break and we didn't know it, but we were making Peanut Brittle by doing our experiment. Yummiest science experiment ever!

    1. Agreed! Have you tried adding color to the vinegar? Then you can make it a color mixing experiment also.

  39. Anatomy classes in high school, with disections, were the most interesting. It was fascinating to see how the body systems worked.

  43. We had a teacher that set up a water filter station. It was neat to pour in muddy water and watch it come out clean.
