A Tale of Two Beds - part 31

When he went to bed the bed itself was on the other side of the room. He also had his pillow and blanket on the bed. I thought it was more convenient that way. 

Well half of her is on the bed... I would be hurting for days if I slept like this.

They did everything possible to sleep together while staying in their own rooms. His bed isn't supposed to block the doorway and she's not really supposed to sleep in the doorway, but this was really cute.

This photo was taken shortly after she very angrily announced, "I'm not tired!" Of course you aren't. That's why you fell asleep on the couch in the middle of playing.

Circus!

Our neighbor was given free tickets to the circus and his teenagers had absolutely no interest. He was kind enough to give them to us! This was technically the second time the kids went to the circus, but the first time was 4 years earlier so they didn't remember much.

She was excited to meet every clown.

She makes friends easily, can you tell?

As you can tell it was difficult to get videos during the circus. Flash photography wasn't allowed. So you just get to imagine everything else. :)

Fun Run

While I have been running for awhile now, the kids have started to show some interest. The running group I am in, Moms Run This Town, scheduled a fun run with a Star Wars theme. I knew this would be a hit. We did the 1 mile option since it was the first time either kid (or Wonderful Husband) had done a run. I promised them all medals at the end.

Sweet Daughter running. I had to make her slow down so I could still see her. She loved every minute of it.

We did it! We all 4 earned our medals.

The kids also got light sabers made out of pool noodles. That was a nice touch.

In the end, Sweet Son said he would never run again (that lasted less than a year). Sweet Daughter said she wanted to do more runs, especially if there were medals. I call it a success.

Cascaron

One tradition our kids love around Easter every year is to smash cascaron - eggs filled with confetti. Most people we know make their own. We ran out of time and just bought a dozen at the store. Here they are sold in grocery stores and big box stores.

Smashing is always fun!

Weaving

After the kids had so much fun with their paper weaving, I found a great deal on a loom from Educents.

He finished in one afternoon.

She wanted to make a rug. A year later and she is more than half way finished...

It's almost Spring and apparently time for one more snow storm. The kids and husband are beyond excited.

Other ways of decorating Easter Eggs

In addition to the marbled eggs I wrote about yesterday, we experimented with other types of decorating eggs.

Marbled Easter Eggs

This is our favorite way to decorate eggs. They are beautiful and so much fun! We started by giving each kid a square of foil with the edges turned up. Then each child got to pile on a lot of shaving cream. I didn't get photos of that this year. Sorry!

They each picked 2 colors of food coloring and put drops around the shaving cream. He picked red and yellow of course.

Then they take a straw and drag it through making swirls and designs.

This is one of the most fun parts.

 He preferred the swirl technique.

The messy part is rolling the eggs in it and then lifting them off. They need to sit for at least 24 hours to dry. With the left overs, the kids pushed a sheet of paper on the top to make marbled paper.

 The three set aside are the final eggs. After 24 hours, we gently wiped off the excess and this is what was left. Beautiful and fun!

I found a recipe for how to make your own bouncy balls. Then we learned that not all recipes and experiments work. Still, look how much fun they had! I love seeing the pure joy on their faces.
