Bike Ride

The kids have been asking to go on an off road biking trail like Daddy. They aren't anywhere close to ready for the trails Daddy rides, but we decided this would count as off road biking for now.

Most of the trail is through the trees and it is so peaceful. The trail is a loop at at the middle point you open out onto the lookout of a large lake and can wave at the boats going by.

Not challenging riding, but perfect this time of year. It's not too hot yet!

Sports

As a child, I wasn't very athletic. I did dance, but other than the twice a week classes, I did almost nothing. So it's surprising to me that my kids and our whole family are so active.

Hockey Practice

Their chosen sport is ice hockey. Strange to me, but they love it. They have practice twice a week where they rotate through drills and games. They come out completely sweaty and with giant smiles.

Monkey Bars

We also go on long bike rides at least once a week - by long I mean 5 miles typically. Both kids ride without training wheels and they think it's fun, not exercise. We often stop in the middle to play at a park. Sometimes we stop at multiple parks so the kids can run off extra energy. She will do loops of monkey bars for 30 minutes. He usually climbs and runs around the playground.

Bike Riding Video

I posted yesterday about the kids learning to ride bikes without training wheels. Here are some videos.

Here is Sweet Daughter's first attempt. Yes, she started with this much success. You can hear Sweet Son in the background refusing to even try riding.

This was a bit later the same day. He was finally willing to try and had success within a few minutes. Now they both love riding and we go a few times a week.

Riding Bikes

The kids have been riding their Balance Bike for a couple of years now. They go fast and understand balance and steering. So, we decided to let them try regular pedal bikes - no training wheels.

Sweet Daughter loved the idea. She jumped on and tried and within about 10 minutes was riding on her own.

Sweet Son loved the bike. It has a button on the front and if you push it, you hear train sounds. He had little desire to actually ride the bike though. It took a lot of convincing, but once he got on it and tried it took about 15 minutes before he was riding on his own.

Did I mention how much we loved those Balance Bikes ? This transition was so easy and fun. They both learned to ride a bike without training wheels at 4 and a half years old. Awesome.
(Do you think this will tire them out????)
