Animal Tracks

What's a boy to do when he wakes up before everyone else? Match animals to their tracks of course.

He was at this for a long time and eventually matched them all.

Here is a close up of some of the cards so you can see his matches.

This game could be played as a memory style game, a matching game, or if you remove one card an old maid type game. The kids end up learning about animals, tracks, and classification.

Ice Day 2

On day 2 of a sheet of ice covering everything, we decided to test out the sleds. It was... crunchy.

The first time out and one of them is very cautious - refusing to go very fast and trying to steer. The other is our daredevil who just goes and trusts everything will work out.

This is a different hill. Now they are starting to have more fun with it.

All 3 "kids" having fun. (I did have a few turns, but it was more fun to watch and laugh at them.)

Ice Day!

One of the problems with the part of the country we are in is that many times instead of getting snow, we just get a layer of ice. Here are photos from one of those ice days.

They are trying to break off a piece to play with. When the adults stepped on it, even on the grass, it wasn't even cracking. You couldn't leave a footprint if you tried.

After letting it melt a bit we went out back to try again. 

It won't work for snowballs, but it's great for making buildings!
